History
The roots of Strohal Legal Group date back to 1870, when Emil Strohal opened a law firm in Graz, Austria. Emil Strohal later became a university professor in Leipzig and Göttingen and is regarded as the founder of the Austrian Land Register Act. His work also had a decisive influence on the development of the German inheritance law.
In 1979, Theodor Strohal laid the foundation of the group in its current form. Initially established as a sole-practitioner firm, it swiftly expanded in Austria and, from 1994 onwards, into the economically emerging countries of Southeast Asia and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Strohal retired as an Austrian attorney-at-law in 2009, but remains available to our clients as a point of contact.
Locations
Our office in the United Arab Emirates was established in 2005 in Ras Al Khaimah. Strohal Legal Consultants UAE is the only international legal consultancy firm in the northernmost emirate with a mainland license and the first point of contact for entrepreneurial projects in Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai, and the other five Emirates of the UAE.
We advise clients on local and cross-border M&A transactions and corporate, business, and labour law matters, company establishments, as well as tax law matters.
The UAE still offer companies an unique business environment: 0% corporate and personal income tax, only 5% VAT, no social security charges for foreign employees, free trade with low import duties in all sectors, free immigration for investors and employees, a stable currency, no currency controls, and very limited government intervention.
The Singapore office was established in 1994 through Strohal Legal Group PTE Ltd. In close cooperation with one of the largest law firms in Singapore, Hin Tat, Augustine & Partners, our clients are offered international tax law and local expertise at the highest level. Singapore primarily serves our clients as a hub for business activities in Asia. Singapore has concluded double taxation agreements and investment protection agreements with almost all Asian countries. Although Singapore is not a “tax haven”, with only 17 % corporate tax and 0 % dividend taxation, it is one of the most tax-favourable countries with excellent infrastructure and high international reputation.
To expand our network, the Strohal Consulting Company Ltd in Thailand was established in 2020. It advises clients as a business consultancy on business establishment and relocation, immigration, insurance, construction projects, and marketing.
Through our country desks and partner firms in Austria, Russia, Ukraine, and Myanmar the firm is well connected in Europe and Asia.
